The ONE and ONLY "Chimpcaster" was sold at a silent auction March 25, 2017 at the Center For Great Apes in Wauchula, Fl. I attended one of their annual members event in which I brought the guitar painted by two chimpanzees, Clyde and Toddy living at the Center. Their art work is absolutely beautiful! I got to see Toddy again, spending wonderful time together, even showing her the guitar she had painted. She was more interested in the shiny chrome parts this time than her art work! However on a sad note, Clyde, Toddy's close companion had passed away a short time ago. The last time I saw him was when he painted the guitar. He is missed.
And the Winner is....
Though the story doesn't end here!
Here's how it goes, (in a nut shell) a story to share that shares true human kindness, compassion, and above all, true heart and spirit!
My good friend, primatologist, music lover and featured in a film documentary, Project Nim, Bob Ingersoll placed a bid at the start of the things. A short time later I caught up with Bob who was stationed at one of the chimpanzee habitats to let him know I didn't see anyone's name/bid after his. Ironically.., I was introduced to Jeff and his wife Heather who were also talking with Bob at the time. They knew each other and became friends at one of the screenings and Q&A of Project Nim at a University in Fl. Jeff uttered the words, I might have to make a bid on the guitar as he heard Bob and I discussing it.
Jeff placed his bid out-bidding Bob close to closing time. As time ran out for the silent auction Jeff won making him the new owner of the guitar. I came up to him, congratulated him with sincere happiness and sadness as well. The guitar that I have played at shows and meant so much having the art work and memory of Clyde was leaving me. Though what happened next astounded me..!
Jeff was of course elated he won the guitar. His next words to me were..,
"I can't believe I won it...!" " Now I want to give it back to you cuz I know just how much it means to you." His generosity and compassion overwhelmed my heart and soul, I lost it a bit. After composing myself, it hit me! I said Jeff.., take it home and enjoy it for as long as you want. We can work out the details to ship it back to me. He told me the guitar would be of pure inspiration and motivation to him. I never thought things would've gone this way. I'm in awe and truly inspired...
Thank you Jeff, Bob Ingersoll, Patti, the staff and volunteers and ALL of the amazing apes living at the Center For Great Apes who provide a permanent sanctuary for chimpanzees and orangutans. A special thank you to Toddy and in memory of Clyde.
Photos of the artists Clyde and Toddy in action were taken in their indoor night houses attached to their large outdoor habitats.
The past two months, Nov and into Dec 2015, funds generated from the CD has reached great ape sanctuaries overseas, Africa and Indonesia. There are only a few sanctuaries to reach leaving all the funds raised by the sales of the CD and downloads exhausted. However, with hope and lot's more reaching out, sharing and connecting, I AM, I AM will continue strong in helping great ape sanctuaries for this new year to come, 2016.
The month of October 2015, was a very special time for the "Project" of I AM, I AM. I am proud to share with all you wonderful supporters and future ones to be, HALF of ALL the proceeds from the sales of the CD and downloads have been shared with great ape sanctuaries throughout North America. Following up is the second half that will be shared with sanctuaries worldwide including Africa and Indonesia. It's a very special and meaningful time knowing the album is reaching its Project Goals and being enjoyed by so many throughout the world. Having great expectations this year and efforts to gain more supporters through interviews and social media, I AM, I AM is sharing the TOTAL PROCEEDS from here on (unlike the CD cover mentioning a percentage of the sales) with great ape sanctuaries. Thank you to everyone for your continuing support of the album, the music, the magnificent apes and the people working so hard caring for them.
The Holidays will soon be around the corner. The album I AM, I AM and its beautifully illustrated 20 pg booklet makes a great gift and helps great apes immediately. Now is the time to consider purchasing the CD or download to BOOST the years end TOTAL PROCEEDS to share once again with great ape sanctuaries.
It's been an exciting summer 2015 for I AM, I AM making a lot of new friends and supporters. It's an honor to have Dr. Jane Goodall's support and kind words for I AM, I AM. There's been opportunities to have radio interviews talking about the album, songs played for listeners, callers with questions and most recently a Cover Story aired on WGN-TV Chicago. WGN used footage from the new video release of the title track, I AM, I AM in the interview story and it's now officially on the web site here and on YouTube. I hope you'll take the time to watch, like, and share it!
